Teeth whitening; the options on the High Street

A great smile gives us oodles of confidence, however life has a habit of wearing out all our natural resources and white teeth is just one of those things that suffers when we indulge the good life. Smoking and drink alcohol with strong colour agents takes it toll on our teeth’s colour, this makes us conscious of having non-white teeth and knocks our confidence. However, help is at hand in the latest methods used to give is back our natural white looking teeth. Veneers are popular with people who want a great smile and don’t mind the cost, but at a few hundred pounds per tooth it can be prohibitive. The method is also used to hide cracked and chipped teeth, and in some cases misaligned teeth. There are two types of tooth veneer and they are used mostly to disguise an individual tooth, although a whole set can be covered. The thin ones are likened to false nails and are fitted in much the same way; they are cemented on after the dentist shaves a layer off the tooth that is equal in thickness to the veneer. The thicker ones are fitted in the same way, thin ones last 3-5 years and the thicker ones 10-15 years, both types can be replaced easily during and after their life time. It gives a more natural look to the smile than a home bleaching kit or the intense light source method. The home kit is also popular and is available from most chemist shops and on the net; at a fraction of the cost of veneers. You get all you need in the kit which is a gum shield and a bleaching agent mix. You have to make a mould of your teeth, but the mould is provided and is made by soaking the shield in hot water to soften it, then biting into it to make the impression. The bleaching agent is then mixed and poured into the shield for you to place on your teeth. You leave it on and allow your teeth to react with the bleach and make them whiter. You have to follow a diet sheet for a few weeks to avoid anything that will re-stain your molars, but the results can be good if you follow the instructions to the letter. Both these methods are popular with everyone seeking to improve their smile, and both methods have gotten good press, a healthy white smile can really improve your self confidence.
